Student troupe
Tundra Caravan is pleased to invite the following students to join the new student troupe:
- Nicole Deroin
- Elizabeth Humphries
- Jessica Jemstrom
- Heather Maas
- Mariana Pacheco
- Jennie Seay
- Kerry Dunham
- Victoria Schmitz
- Sue Ann Larzelere
Student troupe rehearsals will begin on September 16. Rehearsals will be held
at the Mary Siah Recreational Center on Saturdays from 3-4 p.m. If you are
unable to attend during this time period or are unable to join the student
troupe, please contact Tundra Caravan at Tundra Caravan.
The dancers of Tundra Caravan are thankful for all the students who
attended the auditions. The decision process was a difficult one, as many
dancers showed promise. If you were not selected at this time, please consider
attending our next auditions.
Please review the following rules of conduct for the student troupe, which
were explained at the auditions.
Dance Etiquette
- Respect your instructors and fellow troupe members. No gossiping.
- Remember when you are in public that you are representing Tundra Caravan. Please conduct yourself accordingly.
- Be adaptable and changeable.
- Be aware of what you are projecting.
- Let in instructor instruct. Don’t correct the instructor, it undermines her authority.
- Don’t correct other students. If you have a question about the choreography ask your instructor. Don’t say, “Sally Sue is doing it wrong”. Instead say, “I noticed that some of us are doing this part of the dance differently, can we review that part of the dance?”.
- Please don’t talk while your instructor is teaching. You may miss something very important if you are talking over the instructor.
Rules
- Please wear proper dance attire to rehearsals. No jeans, skirts (unless we are working on a shirt dance or have a dress rehearsal), or lingerie bras. Leggings, jazz pants, unitards, jog/sports bras, and leotards are best. We need the clothing form fitting enough that we can easily see the movement of your body.
- Be on time. It’s disruptive to your fellow students and instructor when you interrupt a rehearsal by coming in late. If you come in late and miss warm-up, you will be expected to warm up on your own before joining in. You will be dropped from the troupe for chronic tardiness.
- No gum chewing during rehearsals.
- Please leave disruptive children at home. If you have to stop more than once during rehearsal to remind your child to behave, they are disruptive.
- Keep cell phones off. In the event that a cell phone must be on and it rings during rehearsal, please take the call outside. If you don’t, we will all stop what we are doing and stare at you until you do!
- Students are expected to attend regular rehearsals. You must be the two rehearsals before a performance, in order to perform. Any exceptions to this rule will be at our discretion.
- Students are dropped from the troupe after three unexcused absences. An unexcused absence is one that has not been made up. You can make up classes by doing one of the following: Attend a dance program and turn in a copy of the program, get together with another student to review choreography or review choreography on your own, attend a dance class other than your regular MED class, use a MED instructional video to work on technique. You have two weeks to make-up a class. You must submit in writing, the date you were absent, what you did to make-up the class, and how long you worked.
- In addition to attending student troupe rehearsals, you agree that you will continue to work on technique by enrolling in a MED class taught by your instructor of your choice. Upon approval, another type of dance form can be substituted such as ballet, jazz, or modern.
Troupe fees and costumes
Members of the student troupe are responsible for purchasing a troupe costume.
The first priority should be the purchase of the skirt/choli/veil/harem pants
set and the purchase of a body stocking.
In order to get the best discount on cost and shipping, Tundra Caravan will
coordinate a group purchase of costumes, to be discussed at the first meeting
of the student troupe. Until that time, feel free to explore the links below
and view the troupe costume.
Although you may already have a beautiful costume, it is important to maintain
a uniform look for group choreographies; this is why members must all purchase
the same costume. Individual costumes may be worn for solo performances at our
haflas and other events. Let your beautiful costumes inspire you to create
beautiful choreographies!
2006 Monetary Commitment for Tundra Caravan Student Troupe
Should you be selected to join the student troupe, you will be asked to make the following monetary commitment for the 2006 year.
We are asking that a small monthly fee be paid to cover the cost of renting studio space to hold rehearsals, to pay your instructor for conducting rehearsals, and any associated administration costs associated to running a student troupe. This fee may fluctuate a bit depending on the number of students in the troupe. The greater number of students there are, the less the fee will be and so on.
In order to perform with the student troupe, a troupe costume will need to be purchased. The goal is to purchase a new student troupe costume each year. You will wear the below costume for all troupe performances during 2006. We will try to spread it out a little bit so you can budget accordingly. All costume orders will be placed by your student troupe director. The L. Rose costume is the first item that will be ordered, followed by body stocking, hip scarf, sandals, and jewelry.
